Today is our anniversary. Five years! NO WAY! Way. Mr. K has a long standing tradition, a whole five years now… did I mention that, of gifting me traditional anniversary items. Past years have included paper and leather, last year I scored with yards of linen, and this year that creative guy got me WOOD thread organizers!

I don’t know where he gets his list from, I think there are many out there, and I think he picks and chooses which one to follow each year, but I love it. It’s our/his thing. Thankfully he didn’t know if I really had a place to put the big mamma one, so he bought me a small one too.

Well Ms. E isn’t parting with hers anytime soon, and mine looks too yummy all set up to take back to the store, so we are just going to have to do some wall rearranging and hang this baby up!

Thanks Mr. K, we *heart you too!

P.S. Do you spy anything new in these pics?? Oh yes, that’s right! A NEW CAMERA! Watch out internet, I have been having too much fun taking pictures of everyday items around the house! Don’t worry, I will give you all the vital statistics soon!

I haven’t done anything crafty lately– I should I KNOW and I really have no excuse for it except that I have been in a bit of a funk. BUT I do have this picture of a project I did a couple months ago that I never posted about.

These are the quick wall hangings I did for Ella’s “baby room,” they coordinate with the, I guess you would call it window treatment, and the quilt that Lori so generously made for Ella when she was born. I had been meaning to do something with the remaining fabric from Ella’s window project but I was having trouble deciding on what. Ella’s walls stayed naked until I stumbled upon a great and simple idea from Anna Maria Horner which was then featured on The Martha Show. I already had the fabric and Modge Podge, acrylic paint is cheap, all I had to find were the square canvases. I eventually found them at a Joann’s, but not just any Joann’s, a super store of sorts, and then it was off to Micheal’s to pick up a couple great flat paintbrushes that I have wanted to own anyway! In an afternoon the project was completed and hung. Easy breezy. I decided to use the wren that Anna Maria featured because, well… I was uninspired to do anything else, and I really do like the realistic quality, not to mention my obvious obsession with silhouettes and birds lately.

They are hung above Ella’s changing table, which poses some problems when putting on pants now that she is one! They seem to be a bit irresistible to reach up and grab and knock off the wall, but I can’t blame her, they are tempting to touch.

I am absolutely in love with both of my Mother’s Day gifts this year and I got the art part of it on my walls in a timely manner, which is a record actually, I haven’t even had them for a month! It really is something to marvel at considering I have other frames on my walls that have been begging for content for months.

<a href="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3105/2528009217_463bba3822_b.jpg" class="floatbox" rel="floatbox.22" class="flickr" title="earrings from <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=96736" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">ElizabethSpace</a>

Keith, err Ella, so cleverly ordered two fantastic items from my Etsy Wish List, these prints from Emily at The Black Apple and these perfectly great earrings. I am in love with both equally– I have worn my earings everyday, but I am so much enjoying the new prints in my dining room as I sip my tea in the mornings, I can hardly stand it.

<a href="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2064/2528816076_1fdee50f54_b.jpg" class="floatbox" rel="floatbox.22" class="flickr" title="prints from <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=991" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">the black apple</a>

These are Ribba frames from from IKEA in 9×9, and I finally bought a mat cutter that I have been promising myself for months now (hence all the empty frames on my walls, for those of you who have visited lately) to custom cut the mats to fit the prints that came as 8.5”x11”. The mats are a much more dull white, more creamy compared to the white-white of the prints, so I am not sure if I will keep them this way yet. But it was a great trial run for my new cutter and got them on the wall for me to gawk at their perfectness– the prints, not my cutting. I LOVE them, they are a fantastic twist on the age old silhouette portrait, AND a girl in a TEA cup, what could be more perfect for me? And the bird’s nest hair, holy smokes, I love them.

Dear Emily @ the black apple-
If you ever get around to doing more silhouettes I would be super happy and have just the place in my house for them to live happy and long adored lives. Please, please make more!

from,
Emily @ this humble blog

<a href="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3136/2528814840_4efae346fe_b.jpg" class="floatbox" rel="floatbox.22" class="flickr" title="prints from <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=991" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">the black apple</a>

If you haven’t cut your own mats before, do it! I was a bit intimidated, which is why it has taken me so long to follow through with my plans for my other lonely frames, but the practice Ribba mats were so easy and turned out perfect that I have all the confidence I need now…. once I figure out what to put in the frames! I just followed the four step super simple direction that came with the cutter and it worked like a charm. When the time comes I plan to get my mat board from Michaels, which has tons to choose from and you can use a coupon, what’s better than that?
